Unit 6 Week 12 Evaluating Sources Lesson pg. 2
Evaluating Websites and Other Texts
The "Films on Demand" video on the next page will give you some important pointers about evaluating sources, particularly websites, since many students are so adept at internet research these days.
In addition to websites, you've got blogs, wiki pages, audio and video sources, and more.
The thing to remember is that no type of research source is ever off-limits. Throughout your college career, individual teachers may tell you that you can't use a particular source or source type for an assignment, and this doesn't mean that that source is inherently "good" or "bad," but simply that a particular teacher for a particular assignment wanted you to get expertise in other types of sources.
Regardless of the source, it is important to have excellent critical reading skills and to polish your information literacy skills as you examine and evaluate your various sources for the ways in which they can be utilized by you in a writing assignment.
Review the videos on the next couple of pages and then review the "Evaluating Sources" section of the R-Tab in A Writer's Reference.
