Unit 5 WK 8 Revision Strategy - "Pointing Finger"
The following are various revision strategies that may help you check for overall unity and paragraph-level unity.
Pointing Finger - overall unity
Point to your thesis. Read your thesis (aloud if possible). Next, read a body paragraph. Ask yourself, "Is this body paragraph relevant to my thesis? Does it advance or prove the thesis? Is there any information within the paragraph that doesn't relate to the thesis?
If your answer is "yes," then repeat the process for your next body paragraph. If your answer is "no," then you need to either
- Eliminate the irrelevant information from the body paragraph,
- Add a sentence or two to better connect the paragraph's info to your thesis, or
- Revise your thesis to include this information from the paragraph.
