Unit 5 WK 8 Global Revisions vs. Surface Editing Issues
Global Revisions vs. Surface Editing Issues
Global revision refers to the “big picture” issues regarding your paper: purpose and audience, focus, organization and paragraphing, content, and point of view. For more information on global revisions, please refer to pgs. 21-22 in A Writer’s Reference.
Surface editing, on the other hand, refers to any changes that help you more clearly convey your ideas: eliminating grammatical or sentence structure errors, conforming to certain style guidelines, combining sentences to improve flow, and adding syntactic variety (differing sentence structures for variety). Please refer to the appropriate tabbed section of A Writer's Reference for more information on a specific surface editing issue.
