UNIT 2 -- A Word About Groups
This module has been developed as a resource for students by Dr. K.E.Ogden, with some material adapted from Prof A.C. Panella, by permission.
In this course you'll be working with Cohorts or Small groups throughout the semester on various projects. Often it's difficult and challenging for students to navigate an online or hybrid class with 30 or more students; groups make it nice and intimate.
You will work with your Group Cohort throughout the semester on a variety of assignments, and since there will only be a small handful of other students, you'll get to know your groups quite well over the course of the semester, and hopefully this will deepen and enrich your learning process.
However, groups can be challenging too, especially if students are unfamiliar with how to successfully collaborate with others. This module offers some ground rules and tutorials, along with some useful documents, to help you have a meaningful, stress-free, and productive experience working with your group members.
The link on the next page will take you to a TED TALK, "How to Start a Movement." It will give you a fun, 3-minute overview on the importance of collaboration, an open mind, leadership, and the importance of being a joyful follower. (Transcript available at the site of the link).
