Get help from the Hacker Handbook

Your required textbook for this course is A Writer's Reference by Diana Hacker and Nancy Sommers. We prefer you to get the PCC Custom Edition because it contains valuable information about the English program at PCC, including course outlines and rubrics.

If you were previously in English 100 or English 901, you probably have a paper copy of what we call the "Hacker Handbook" already; or, you have access to a full electronic version through Comp Class Links to an external site..

Either way, we wanted to take an opportunity to really pitch this handbook to you. A lot of students buy a handbook, and teachers assume that students are investigating concepts in the handbook that are discussed in class. 

We'd like you to flip through (or scroll through) the various elements of the Diana Hacker handbook. Throughout this semester you'll be able to look up a lot of information that will be useful and that will supplement your understanding of many key concepts in your writing course.

Your Weekly Attendance Sign-in for Week 2 will ask you to look through your Hacker Handbook and complete a scavenger hunt through the survey feature. Have fun!
