How can I help you?

This course is designed to offer you supplementary instruction and support for your English 1A class. Each week we will work together to build on skills that you’re developing in your English classes.

These skills are trasnferable. What that means is that although you may or may not be working with the same content in this class as with your English 1A course, the skills that you're learning can be applied to your English 1A course and all of your other courses too! Reading, Writing, Critically Thinking--these are all skills necessary for your college success. Think about ways you can apply the things you're learning in English 900 to your other campus courses.

The Unit 1, Week 1 module is designed to introduce you to our Learning Management System (LMS), CANVAS, as well as orient you to how we'll move through our lessons each week.

For example, this week you will take an online readiness quiz and share your score with your classmates, reflecting on what your particular challenges might be for our course. Then you'll participate in a discussion board to get to know all of your classmates. Finally, you will be grouped for the entire semester into smaller, sub-group “Cohorts” with whom you’ll collaborate on assignments throughout our (#) weeks together.

For this week’s activities, and for the rest of the semester, you’ll need your required textbook, A Writer’s Reference by Diana Hacker.
