Regarding the Weekly Attendance Check-in

We have set up an "assignment zero" for each week--the "Weekly Attendance Check-in" assignment.

These are a mix of survey-type check-ins and discussion board postings.

You may feel that the discussion board postings are too lengthy to serve as a "Weekly Attendance Check-in" assignment, so we suggest weekly, ungraded quizzes on the Diana Hacker Handbook readings as another option. There are one or two versions of this type of check-in as well.

In talking with students, we have found that a required, start-of-week check-in helps them remember their online course requirements and plan out their week.

A little hiccup--in developing the course we have duplicated some weekly check-ins. The Check-ins and assignments linked from the modules are the latest, best versions that we've selected, but if you or your students go to ASSIGNMENTS outside of modules, ALL of the possibilities will open up. The duplications will need to be deleted prior to teaching the course so that students are not confused.

Whatever you choose for your weekly check-in, consider the time commitment of students for the lab--1 hour of instruction.

Student typing speeds and reading speeds are another story, but all in all, the weekly modules have been developed to take about an hour.
