Child and Family Services is an organization or government agency designed to improve the well being of people who come from many different, sometimes unfortunate, circumstances. Those who are actively seeking to get into one of these homes no longer have any other resource to turn to other than their social security number. The services they offer range from preventing young children from entering abusive environments to helping those with drug or alcohol addictions get treatment for themselves or for their children. The primary focus however is on preventing a child from having to face life as an unwanted child or without a family. This is an important service since studies have shown that at any given age there is at least one child in the United States who has been or will experience physical abuse, neglect or abandonment.
Child and Family Services works by making sure that families stay together, working towards making all family members comfortable and satisfied with their lives. This service also monitors those families to make sure they remain a healthy environment for all involved. They do this by evaluating the homes and working with the parents to ensure they are maintaining a safe environment for their children, teaching good morals to all involved and implementing programs and policies that promote good values and principles within the family. The social worker is also called upon to work closely with the local school systems to help prevent any bad behaviors or negligent actions on the part of teachers or school staff.
One of the primary tasks of Child and Family Services is preventing substance abuse. This can include everything from drug use and/or use in schools to violence among family members. If a parent suspects that a child or teen may be struggling with substance abuse they should ask questions, learn as much as possible about their family's situation and do whatever they can to try and help. It is not always easy for a social worker to spot warning signs so it may be necessary for them to work closely with the school system and school police to get information and evidence about potential problems.
There are many other programs that work to help families that need assistance with everyday living. Many families in the county experience high levels of poverty and are at high risk for leaving their children in foster care. Social workers help families in foster care prepare for possible changes and work to ensure that these families maintain stable living conditions. If a family is approved to live in a foster care facility they will likely have to go through a background investigation before being placed in the facility. Once they are in the facility they will work with the agency to create a safety plan for their foster child(ren). These plans will help prevent the parents from abandoning their children and also work to ensure the children are kept safe in the home while the parents attend to other duties.
Child and Family Services also works to keep children from living in harmful environments. For example, one of the most dangerous places for young boys in the country is running a mile on a track. This exposes them to too much injury and allows some predatory individuals to prey upon them. Other agencies work to make sure that neighborhood streets and schools are safe for children.
One of the best ways for a family to remain involved is to be a member of a family and child abuse prevention organization. These organizations help members educate themselves and keep abreast of current efforts that have been made to combat child abuse and neglect. They may work to create community education classes that inform people about the dangers of living with or near someone who has been the victim of child neglect or abuse. They may work to create community resource centers that provide support, including information about legal resources that help to enforce child protection laws within the community. This help makes it easier for families to be proactive when combating neglect and abuse within their community.
