For part one of my midterm, we were assigned to find and analyze two Obama campaign ads and two Romney campaign ads. I never paid much attention to them before, but as a assignment I really had to look much deeper into it and analyze it from the perspective of the producer and the candidate. This was basically the first time I look into one of these videos and it was no easy task. As someone who had literally no experience in politics or any subject relating to it, I didn't really have a answer for many of the questions such as what does this commercial make me feel or think, because I really didn't feel anything at first. Since I was never much involved into politics, I usually just ignorantly jump to calling these ads empty promises. But with the suggested questions presented by the assignment to guide me on what to look for during the interpretation of the videos, I was able to see into the psychological techniques many of ads use to gain more supporters and attack their rivals, even simple things such as speech format can lead to manipulation of the viewer's mind in some of the ads. I feel that this assignment really improved my level of critical analysis and thus I was able to actually able to interpret the videos and answer the questions. With this, I was able to look much deeper than its plain meaning and see from the perspective of the producer, how they want the viewer to feel and think.
