Creating an Assignment
To create an Assignment in Canvas, you'll follow similar steps to creating a Discussion. Check out the written or video instructions below for creating an Assignment:

Written Instructions
- Select the "+" plus sign to the right of the Module title.
- From the dropdown menu, select "Assignment."
- Select "[New Assignment]."
- Type the Assignment title in the Assignment Name box.
- Select "Add Item"
- Click on the Assignment title.
- Select "Edit" at the top of the page.
- Type instructions for students in the text box. If you need to attach any documents, attach to the text box the same way you would to a Page.
- Type points possible in the Points box. The default Assignment Group will be Assignments. If you select the dropdown, you can add other assignment group titles if you wish.
- For Submission Type select "Online."

Check the box for "File Uploads." This option allows students to submit documents.
- If you'd like to use Turnitin as a plagiarism checker, select the dropdown next to Plagiarism Review and then select Turnitin.
- Down below, add a Due Date and Available From / Until dates if applicable. (These are open and close dates for the assignment.)
- Select "Save & Publish" to post to students. (Reminder: If you select Save only, students won't be able to see the discussion.)
