Zoom in Canvas: Office Hours for One Section

If you are only teaching one course, the simplest way to schedule your office hours is to schedule it as a recurring meeting in your Canvas course.  The advantage to this method is that you will see all of your office hours conveniently listed on your "Upcoming Meetings" tab.  It's easy for you to start the meetings and it's easy for your students to join the meetings.

However, you'll want to set up your office hours a bit differently if you are teaching multiple course sections.

STEP 1: Schedule a Recurring Office Hour Meeting

  1. In your Canvas course shell, click Zoom on the course menu.
  2. Click the "Schedule a New Meeting" button.Zoom interface shows the "New Meeting Button" at top-right side of screen.

  3. Select the meeting details:
    • Topic: "Office Hours"
    • When: Select the first date you will hold office hours, and the start time.
    • Duration: Set the length of time that you will be available for office hours
    • Recurrence: Checkmark the "recurring meeting" option.
Occurs on: Set "Weekly" recurrence, repeating every 1 week, and then select the days of the week to occur.
End date: Select the "By" radio-button and select the last date you will hold office hours.Zoom provides an interface to define the topic, description, day/time, and if the meeting is recurring.

  4. For security, we recommend using a passcode and waiting room.
