The Canvas Gradebook at a Glance

Before we dive deep into the features of the Canvas Gradebook, let's start by getting to know the lay of the land. Below you'll find a list of the key links/buttons in the Gradebook, which we'll be exploring in greater depth as we proceed through this module.

  1. Gradebook Dropdown - This dropdown menu allows you to choose from the default Gradebook view, Individual View, and the Gradebook History view.

  2. View Dropdown  - This menu contains  options for arranging  and filtering your gradebook columns. 

  3. Actions - Import & Export your Gradebook in CSV format. 

  4. Student Column - This menu lets you choose how your student names and information are sorted and displayed. 

  5. Assignment Columns - Each assignment column has a dropdown menu that allows you to choose display and grading options for the specific assignment. 

  6. Gradebook Cells - The gradebook cells are where you can manually enter point values, complete/incomplete or other grades. The cells also contain a link to the Grade Detail Tray which we will cover in depth later in the module.

  7. Student Search - You can filter your gradebook view down to a specific student by typing their name in this field.

  8. Policy Options - This options menu is where you can set grading policies and automatic reductions for missing or late assignments, and determine if you want to post grades automatically or manually.
