I decided to do this assignment on Salem.

It was populated by Puritans who had a very strict way of life. Religious leaders commanded everyone to follow their beliefs and they believed whoever did not act that way was being used by the devil. When one of the reverend’s daughter got sick along with his niece in 1692, they called a village doctor who determined somebody had done witchcraft on them, this was when the Salem trials began. There was many factors that led to these beliefs. As mentioned before there was a strong belief in the devil and devil worshippers. There was also a small pox epidemic and rivalry between people in the Salem’s village and town, all of these things made people believe there was witches. I don’t think this event had a long term effect in the US other than affect the direct families of the victims whom Puritans believed were witches and therefore got killed. The Salem trials did not last very long. It was in March 1, 1962 when they started accusing both, men and women, of witchcraft and the final hanging was September 22, 1962. They only lasted 6 months. There was 19 people hanged and 1 pressed to death.

How do you think the victims accused of being witches felt ?

What would you have done if you were living during the Salem trials ?

1. I think the witch trials were cause of the Puritans beliefs. I think because people weren't that much educated and didn't know what causes certain diseases they tried to find an answer and their answer was blaming people of doing witchcraf . Which I think was unfair to the victims.

2.i don't think the witch trials had any time of effect in US history other than the direct families.. then again that's just my point of view :)

Your article was very interesting. I think a lot of things would have been so much different if there was no slavery.

Hello, if a different girl would have been sick instead of the reverend’s daughter there might have been a possibility  that the outcome would have been different, but then again, puritans views were very strict so I think the outcome would be the same
