The topic I chose to talk about on the discussion is Olaudah Equiano, The Middle Passage (1788). I chose this topic because I read one of Olaudah Equiano’s pieces during my senior year in high school, it was African-American literature and I found it really interesting because of the way we discuss it as a class and the methods we used to discuss little pieces of information. It’s a great piece of literature because Equiano goes into detail of the horrific trip on boat that he and fellow slaves had. What is incredible about Equiano is that he enjoyed writing literature and nothing stopped him from doing what he loved most. It was a really bad experience for Equiano and fellow slaves because of the ways the Europeans would inflict their power over the African people. These people including Equiano suffered a lot as they saw people die in front of them and the when women gave birth to their children, they would suffocate them to avoid having them suffer like they were. This was a really sad time in history for African people and Equiano uses very detailed pieces of information to see or imagine what it looked like to him while he was onboard these ships. Equiano states how he felt that he was going to go through the same fate as his fellow companions. But even after all these hardships, Equiano never gave up and now, over 200 years later he is giving us his work that he suffered so dearly to write.

I can't believe that African-Americans were treated so badly. Equiano gives us a feel on what he was going through. Great Post!
