The first thing I learned was to write for yourself not others. By this I mean I spent to much time writing what I thought other’s wanted to hear instead of writing about what I felt. I am beginning to learn the importance of telling my own story. I now realize the importance of details. I also realize the importance of the use details in support of my arguments. I regretted the process of revision, but have now come to value it. It took me awhile to revise essay #3, but once I started how couldn’t believe the flow of ideas that surfaced. I wish I had more time to finish essay #3. I like weeding and pruning. It gives me a chance to clarify my ideas. The openings for my first draft and last product are entirely different. I also have learned to value collaboration. We used peer reviews at work to improve our results and now I see it in my work here at school. I’ve always considered myself a good reader, but I now see how the process of annotation can help me become a good writer. My main issues are getting started, use of details and transitions, but I can now knock revising off the list. My goal is too as Pipher says “know when I have done my best”. I am not there yet, but one thing I do mnow is that I now enjoy writing. It’s a great outlet.
