When writing a timed essay, try to find something about the topic that inspires you. The more inspired you are about a topic, the easier it is to generate ideas. Also as Piper states, “Without emotions fueling the process, where does the energy come from?” You must take caution to ensure that your energy is focused in the right direction so that the question is properly answered. Once you arrive at a thesis, pay attention to dissenting thoughts. You may have to change your thesis, as well as the opening and closing paragraphs. By paying attention to questions you may have while writing you can also think about possible arguments to your thesis. If you have organized your observations or ideas, use them to fuel your essay. In the context of speed writing, the ideas can help you avoid the fluff and assist in revising your thesis if you have to.

Wow really good. I had a difficult time correlating Pipher's thoughts with writing a timed essay. How you put organizing thoughts with time planning is genius. I just couldn't come to grips with putting observations in boxes was akin to planning your time. I am going to print your assessment out and use it for this weeks timed essay.

Bravo

I like how you used all the elements Pipher suggested as keys to the writing process. One thing bothers me, Passion.  What if the topic doesn't float your boat? What do you do? Does anybody have a answer to this situation?
