I chose a quote from Mary Pipher’s book, “Writing to Change the World”. The quote is from chapter 3, “What You Alone Can Say”, on page 44. The author Willa Cather writes “Life began for me when I ceased to admire and began to remember.

   It says to me you can’t exist using another person’s voice. Your just a window into some else's life. A middleman. You add no value to the world, your just an unnecessary cost to society. Once you begin to relive and share your experience’s, your memories and your point of view then the world has brand new life to learn from and to learn about. Your life.  A corollary to Alex Haley quote, “Every death is like the burning of a library”, might be “Every new voice is like the building of a new library”. Oh well I tried. I’ll work on that.

Beautiful. That quote is not a key to good argumentative writing but to critical thought. ”Complete story” is the key word for me. It is impossible to gain a solid understanding of a topic without multiple viewpoints. You can’t make a good assessment without all th facts.
