For my ePortfolio Check-In reflection, I choose Project 1 assignment that involved the analysis of the video of our choice in relationship to the ideals and theories of Marx, Comte and Durkheim. Although, I wanted to have more of an allotted page numbers, I was content with my work on this project. This project influenced me to think more in depth about why this documentary had touched me in the first place. I knew this documentary had an impact on how I and all the other investigators and observers of Joyce Vincent's case, but with Marx, Comte and Durkheim I was able to articulate why and how that documentary impacts society. This assignment was a great one to reflect upon because it not only gave me insight into myself, but also into the interconnectedness that one individuals possess in relationship to other in society. This assignment really pushed me outside of my comfort zone to relate new theories learned in relationship to old and familiar videos that we learned to see through a more analytical and sociological perspective.

I enjoyed all the aspects of your e-Portfolio, it was great to get some ideas for my own. I too have the same difficulties of organizing my thoughts. I was wondering, was it the reading that helps clarify the different views of sociologists or was it the actual video about Mayan civilizations that helped you grasp the different sociological perspectives of each sociologist?

I enjoyed your insight into the Delancey video and I very much agree with you that it provides a great method of getting people out of the rut their in. This is true, there are things that don't benefit our lives and it is interesting how you did your own self-assesment in relationship to the assignment. From this, did you determine whether you view your life through functional interactionist lens or conflict sociological lens?
