When you take fully ONLINE classes, you don’t have scheduled lectures or labs to go to like in on-campus classes. Instead you have deadlines for assignments and projects that you’ll need to complete during the course of a week. In HYBRID courses, you'll need to keep track of both your online assignments and your on-campus meetings. Because of this, learning online requires that you know how to manage your time and course load well.

Being organized is probably challenging for you. Before taking an online class, you may want to feel more comfortable with strategies to manage your tasks and time. Online classrooms are very interactive, so you need to stay on top of your readings, homework and project assignments.


Before taking a fully online class you might explore a couple of the courses offered by the Counseling Department. These courses help you improve your academic study skills which can in turn make online learning a more successful academic experience for you.

You might need to work a little more on your organization and time management skills. While you have a few of the skills necessary for success in the online classroom, it is important that you develop more strategies to help you get organized. Online classrooms are very interactive, so you need to stay on top of your readings, homework and project assignments.

 

Check out the Tools for Student Success page from the Counseling Department to get more ideas about how to structure your time. You might even take one of the classes offered by the Counseling Department.to get you really ready for success in your classes.

Online classes may be a good fit for you. While some of the skills you would need to succeed in an online class – like time management and organization -- may still be a challenge for you, you have a great base of strategies to work from.

 

Before taking a fully online class, you might consider taking a hybrid class that has some on-campus face-to-face meetings to get used to what will be expected of you in the online environment and help you develop your academic skills further.
