Zoom Recordings and Passwords

Accessing Password-Protected Zoom Recordings

Understanding Zoom Recording Security

Zoom cloud recordings are, by default, password protected as a security enhancement.

When you click on a Zoom recording in Canvas, your browser will copy the password automatically and will attempt to open the recording in a new browser tab.

Note: If Zoom does not open the recording in a new browser tab, it most likely is being blocked by your browser's pop-up blocker.

Clicking the video tile again should force the recording to open. If not, please check your pop-up blocker settings to allow pop-ups from https://canvas.pasadena.edu/

Entering the Password

Method 1: Using the Auto-Copied Password

If Zoom prompts you for the password:

  1. Just paste the password (which your browser has already automatically copied) into the password prompt. Right-clicking the passcode field will open a menu with the "Paste" command on it.
  2. Click the Watch button.
  3. Zoom will pass you through to view the recording.

Troubleshooting Password Issues

If Zoom Does Not Accept Your Pasted Password

  1. Return to the browser tab containing your Canvas course

  2. In your Canvas > Zoom > Cloud Recordings, under the recording tile, a passcode will be listed. (If you don't see it, click the recording tile again)

Click the "eyeball" icon to reveal the passcode.

  3. Copy the revealed passcode
  4. Paste the copied passcode into the Zoom passcode prompt

Accessing Recordings Outside of Canvas

Recording Links from Zoom Cloud Recordings

If you were sent a direct link to a recording outside of Canvas, ask the sender for the password. The sender may simply be unaware that there was an automatic password applied to the recording. If they go back to the recording link that they shared, they will be able to find the passcode listed just below the recording link.
