Connecting Google Drive to Canvas

Introduction to Google Integration

We have integrated Google with Canvas so that you can embed a Google doc in a Canvas page. Your teacher can also provide you with a copy of a Google doc, which you can then edit and submit as an assignment submission in Canvas.

Required: How to Register Google as a Service in Canvas

Please note that in order for Google to work in Canvas, you must first authorize Canvas to connect to your PCC Google account. This will NOT work with your personal Gmail account. Every student has a go.pasadena.edu email address, which is connected to a Google account through PCC. As a student, you will need to use your go.pasadena.edu address to access Google applications at PCC.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. On the Canvas global menu, click "Account."

On the slide-out tray, click "settings."

  2. Click the "Google Drive" button, found under the Other Services list.

  3. You will be prompted to authorize Canvas to access your Google account. Click the "Authorize Google Drive Access" button.

  4. A window will appear, prompting you to select your Google account.

If your "go.pasadena.edu" account appears here - great! Click on it to select that account.

However, if it only shows your personal Gmail account, or other Google account, you'll need to click "use another account" and log on with your "go.pasadena.edu" account.

  5. When prompted to sign in, type your go.pasadena.edu email address: username@go.pasadena.edu.

    Click the "Next" button.

  6. You'll be prompted to log on with your PCC username and password. This is the same username and password that you use to log on to LancerPoint and to Canvas.

  7. Canvas will ask for permission to access your Google account.

    Click the "Allow" button.
