Creating Accessible Infographics
Accessibility Challenges with Infographics
Infographics are one of the hardest types of content to make accessible. When using an infographic, always make sure to include a transcript or text version of the content represented in the infographic.
Methods for Including Transcripts
You can incorporate the transcript in any of the following ways:
- Hide it behind the image using HTML or CSS
- Display the transcript below the image infographic. See an example at WebAim Links to an external site.
- Link to the transcript. Write up the transcript on a separate page using simple text. Provide a link to that transcript directly below or above the image infographic.
Best Practices for Infographic Transcripts
- Include all text content from the infographic
- Describe important visual elements and their relationships
- Maintain the same information hierarchy as the visual
- Use headings, lists, and paragraphs to organize content
