  • Create Link in the Rich Content Editorr

External Tool Assignment

This is the method you’ll need to choose if you want the VoiceThread to be a graded item that syncs with the Canvas gradebook. (Note: If you aren't familiar with creating assignments in Canvas, you may want to view this overview video Links to an external site..)

VoiceThread allows you to create three different types of graded activities:

  • Create: Students are required to make a VoiceThread using a video, image, document or presentation.
  • Comment: Students are required to make a comment on a VoiceThread
  • Watch: Students just watch or listen to an entire VoiceThread

For detailed information about each of these options, please view our VoiceThread Training Links to an external site. video, or VoiceThread Instructor Guides Links to an external site..

  1. First, create a new Assignment in Canvas, and choose "External Tool" from the Submission Type dropdown menu.

  2. Click the Find button to open a list of available External Tools.

  3. Scroll down in the Configure External Tool window and select VoiceThread from the list of tools.

  4. Once you select the VoiceThread option, you will be logged in to the VoiceThread system and a new "VoiceThread Setup" window will open allowing you to continue linking your specific content through the VoiceThread interface.  In the case of the External Tool assignment, you will most likely be choosing the Assignment Builder option.
