Goal #2: First Year Classes - Math & English IS
English and Math are fundamental classes that are very important for college students. If you are considering earning an Associate Degree or transferring, it is recommended that all students complete their English and Math requirements in the first year at PCC. |
EnglishTo earn a college degree or transfer to a university/college, all students must complete PCC’s “English 1A: Reading and Composition”.For students who feel they may benefit from more support in English 1A, students can self-enroll in English 1A + 150. More information: "What English Class is Best for Me?". |

ESLIf English is your second language, it is recommended that you take an English as a Second Language (ESL) Placement exam. This will help determine whether other English classes are necessary before enrolling in English 1A. For more information about the ESL placement survey, please visit the ESL Guided Self Placement Website. |
Math
To earn a degree or transfer to a university/college, students are often required to take at least one math class. The type and number of math classes you will take is dependent on your major. The intake form you complete will allow you to elaborate on your goals so that a counselor can advise the most appropriate course for you.
Some entry level math courses have options for students to self-enroll into sections that have added support. These options include courses like:
-
Math 15+115 for Liberal Arts Math or Statistics 50 +150 for Statistics
-
Math 3 + 103 for STEM Math
More information about math classes can be found online.
